Episcopal Green Beans

Episcopal Green Beans

Sides
Green Beans, Holidays, Thanksgiving

Serves 6-8

Despite their name, you need not be a bishop or even an Episcopalian to enjoy these. This is my version of a dish that was served annually at the parish Thanksgiving dinner of the Episcopal Church in Brenham, Texas. I found it years ago in an old community cookbook.

Ingredients #

  • 2 lbs frozen whole green beans, thawed
  • Garlic salt to taste
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions #

Place the green beans in a large saucepan or pot. Season generously with garlic salt and cook on medium heat for about 20 minutes or until heated through. Drain any accumulated liquid. Combine the butter, mustard and Worcestershire sauce, and add to the beans. Marinate them, covered and chilled, for 6-12 hours. Warm before serving.
