White Sangria
Beverages
Brunch,
Summer
Makes 1 pitcher
This is much lighter and more refreshing than most sangrias, and the low alcohol makes it ideal for long hot evenings. If you want something stronger, add 1/2 cup (or more) brandy.
Ingredients #
- ¼ cup sugar
- 8 large basil leaves
- 1 bottle white vinho verde, chilled
- 2 celery stalks, cut diagonally into 1" pieces
- 1 jalapeno, seeded and thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 tsp orange flower water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice, plus ½ lemon thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons orange juice plus ½ orange thinly sliced
- 1 peach, halved, pitted and sliced
- 2 cups (or more) chilled club soda
- Ice to serve
Instructions #
In a large pitcher, stir together the sugar, basil and wine, lightly bruising the basil, until the sugar dissolves. Stir in the celery, jalapeno, orange flower water, orange and lemon juice, and the sliced peach. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight.
Just before serving, stir in the orange and lemon slices and club soda. Add a couple of ounces of brandy if desired. Serve over ice.
